What Is Twitter Affiliate Marketing?

Twitter affiliate marketing is the process of recommending products and services on Twitter via tweets.

You can run paid advertisements in order to reach an audience.

Or you can build an audience (for free) then promote products to that audience.

How To Get Started With Twitter Affiliate Marketing

Step 1: Use Your Profile To Build Your List

Twitter allows you to have a link within the website section of your profile.

Rather than placing an affiliate link in there, or a link to your website, consider linking out to an optin page to build your email list.

Like you see Grant Cardone doing with his profile:

That link redirects to a webinar registration page.

Which of course, Grant uses to build his email list and drive people into his funnels.

Like so:

An email list is an asset.

So it makes sense to send people to an optin page wherever possible.

Especially from your profile, where people are likely to go to learn more about you.

Be sure to fill in the rest of your profile too, so people can see who you are and what you’re about.

Step 2: Build A Following

The more people who follow you, the better your chances to generate leads and sales.

And one of the best ways to build your following, is to follow other people in your industry.

Then to interact with those people by re-posting their content and commenting on their posts.

You can like, comment and repost content from the bottom of a post.

Like so:

Also, the more people you follow and interact with, the more likely they are to then follow you back.

Basically, building your following is a numbers game.

To find people in your industry, click on the Explore tab:

There you can see recommended topics and people, along with what’s trending on Twitter.

You can also search for people in your industry using the search tab.

Step 3: Post Content, Not Products

If you look at a lot of successful affiliate marketers on Twitter, you’ll notice something they all have in common…

They post content, not products.

They do this to build trust and rapport with their audience.

And because people on Twitter want content, not to be pitched.

You’ll see this happening all the time, across many different industries.

Like you see here from PCMag:

example of pcmag promoting affiliate products on twitter

PCMag is a huge affiliate website in the tech niche.

And if you look at their posts, almost all of them are linked to content on their website.

They’ll link to product reviews, how to guides and general information.

They never link directly to their affiliate offers.

Here’s a few content ideas to consider sharing on Twitter…

1: Links to your blog posts, YouTube videos or other forms of content.

2: Personal stories about yourself.

3: Your failures and/or successes.

4: Tips and tricks related to your industry.

When sharing content to blog posts etc, use that content to pitch your affiliate products.

Step 4: Post, A lot

Things move quickly on Twitter.

If you don’t post often enough, you’ll be forgotten.

And the content you do post, will go unseen.

To overcome this, it’s recommended to post, a lot!

According to HootSuite, the ideal number to post is 2-3 times per day.

You’ll notice this too when looking at top influencers.

For example, Gary Vaynerchuk:

how often to tweet on twitter

He’s posting multiple times per day, everyday.

And most of the time, he’s posting content that his audience finds valuable.

Step 5: Use Hashtags With Every Post

Hashtags (written with a # symbol) are used to index keywords or topics.

Also, they allow people to easily follow topics they’re interested in.

Here’s an example from WPBeginner.

They use hashtags within all of their posts:

When you’re posting on Twitter, be sure you also use hashtags with every post you create.

Here’s a few tips about using hashtags on Twitter…

1: Use no more than 2-3 hashtags per post.

2: Always use relevant hashtags.

3: Use the explore tab to find trending topics and hashtags relevant to your brand/content.

Step 6: Join Communities

Twitter communities are similar to Facebook groups.

They’re a dedicated place for like minded people to share and get closer to the discussions they care about most.

Communities are a great way to interact with an audience and get insights into what they’re talking about. (Problems they’re having or goals etc.)

This is a goldmine, because you’ll be able to see the types of content being shared and get ideas on what you can share or create yourself.

It’s also a great way to gain more followers.

You can find and join communities by clicking the Communities tab:
