What Is An Affiliate Marketing Funnel?

An affiliate marketing funnel is a process you send potential customers through to quickly convert them from prospects into leads, and then into customers.

The process itself is a series of pages & emails:

The idea behind a funnel is to educate your audience in a way that builds trust & rapport.

Then to promote affiliate products once trust has been established.

Overview Of An Affiliate Marketing Funnel

Let’s take a closer look at the steps within the funnel diagram above.

This will give you more insights into each step of the funnel:

Step 1: Traffic

You generate traffic via blogging, paid ads or social media etc.

Step 2: Optin Page

You drive that traffic to an optin page.

That optin page should contain some kind of a lead magnet as a “bribe” to acquire an email address.

Step 3: Email Sequence

As people opt in for the lead magnet, their email address is added to an email list.

An email sequence is then triggered to start building trust & rapport with each lead.

Step 4: Bridge Page

This is the page a lead is redirected to after they’ve opted in for the lead magnet.

This page is used to build trust & rapport & to pre-sell the affiliate offer.

Step 5: Affiliate Offer

Where you redirect all leads from the bridge page over to your affiliate offer.

And that sequence of events (that process) is a funnel.

(The Beginners Guide For 2024)

For this, we need to work backwards.

So, we we start with the offer…

Step 1: Find A Great Offer

It’s important you promote the right kind of offer.

Because if you don’t, you could set up your funnel only to find out it doesn’t produce sales.

Here’s a few key points to remember when choosing an offer:

  • It needs to be a great offer

Whatever you promote, it needs to be awesome!

If the offer stinks, you won’t make sales. (Even if you have an amazing funnel.)

  • Make sure the offer is something your audience wants or needs

If you pitch an offer they don’t really want or need, you’ll have a hard time generating sales.

So be sure to pitch the right offer, to the right audience.

Step 2: Create A Bridge Page

A bridge page is used primarily to build trust & rapport with each lead acquired in the funnel.

And at the same time, it’s used to pre-sell the affiliate offer.

Here’s an example of a simple bridge page:

The video’s of the affiliate sharing tips & tricks etc.

It’s also used to pre-sell the affiliate offer.

The button beneath the video then links out to the affiliate offer.

When creating your own bridge page, consider adding in elements such as…

  • Story telling

Telling stories is a powerful way to pre-sell an affiliate offer.

Maybe you could tell a story about how the product has helped you or someone you know.

  • Sharing an unboxing video

Perhaps you’re promoting a physical product?

If you are, consider adding an unboxing video on your bridge page.

Doing so will show your audience how cool the offer is from your perspective.

  • Demonstrating the product

Sometimes people just want to see a demonstration of the product before they buy.

Whatever you decide to put on your bridge page, be genuine & thoughtful.

Because that’s going to help in boosting conversions.

To create a bridge page, you will need a page builder.

For that, check out this post that covers the best page builders for affiliate marketing.

Step 3: Write An Email Sequence

Now it’s time to create an email sequence for your leads.

When it comes to email sequences, there are 4 types of sequences that work really well:

1: A welcome sequence

Where you welcome leads into your business & introduce yourself.

2: A content sequence

The goal here is to provide as much value as you can & help your audience overcome problems.

3: A promo sequence

A promo sequence focuses on the promotion of affiliate offers.

4: A combination of the three

This involves weaving all sequence types within the one email sequence.

And in my opinion, this one is the best.

Because you provide value & sell at the same time.

Here’s an example of a simple email sequence:

This is one of my own email sequences.

It’s triggered when someone signs up for my free affiliate marketing course. (Which you can sign up for here.)

The sequence is designed to build a relationship, send the lead back to the course, provide value & to sell, all within the one sequence.

When it comes to creating email sequences, I’ve found ConvertKit to be the best.

Step 4: Create An Optin Page

An optin page is designed to do one thing & one thing only…

Acquire a persons contact information, such as their email address.

Getting them to give you their email address is achieved by offering a “lead magnet.”

Quick Tip: A lead magnet is something valuable you give away for free in exchange for an email address. Types of lead magnets include reports, eBooks, checklists, videos, free courses, templates, free trials etc.

Here’s an example of an optin page & lead magnet from DigitalMarketer:

On this optin page, the lead magnet being offered is an email marketing metrics guide.

When creating your optin page, be sure it includes these elements.

These will help with conversions:

1: Write a captivating headline

The headline is the first thing people see.

If it doesn’t stand out, visitors will leave without opting in!

Here’s a few tips to make your headline pop:

  • Promise a benefit
  • Use curiosity
  • Put news in the headline

2: Use a strong call to action

A call to action (CTA) is where you tell people what to do next.

If people are not told exactly what to do, they’ll do nothing.

An example of a CTA could be:

“Click the button below right now for instant access!”

A strong CTA should be clear & direct.

To create optin pages, you will need a landing page builder.

If you use WordPress, check out Elementor or OptinMonster.

Or there’s LeadPages too, which is another awesome landing page builder.

Step 5: Get Traffic To Your Funnel

With the funnel built, all that’s left to do is send traffic to the funnel.

There are many different ways to get traffic.

Here are 2 that are popular:

1: SEO

SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization.”

It’s the art of optimizing blog posts to rank high in Google’s organic search results.

Those posts can also be used as optin pages to build your email list & drive traffic into your funnel.

First, you research keywords to see what your audience types into Google.

Then you write content your audience will love.

Lastly, you use SEO techniques to get that content ranked.

While this is free traffic, it does require time before that content starts ranking in the search results.

2: Paid ads

If you want to get traffic quickly, then paid ads might be for you.

And a great place for paid ads is Facebook.

They have tonnes of traffic you can get in front of & can do so very quickly.

Here’s an example of a Facebook ad.

This one is from DigitalMarketer:

This ad showed in my news feed.

So I clicked on it to see where it would take me.

And sure enough, straight to an optin page.

And because they are savvy marketers, there will absolutely be a full blown funnel behind that optin page!
